Disadvantages for Offliners in Everyday Consumer Life

Consumer Protection Digital Literacy

All areas of life, society and the economy have been affected by the digital transformation. Online shopping, navigation applications, e-banking, etc. are now part of everyday life for the majority of the population. At the same time, many offline services are being cut back for reasons of cost efficiency. Around 14% of Austrians do not use the Internet ("offliners"). The project examines the impact of increasing digitisation on those consumers who do not want or are unable to use digital services.

Digital Literacy Gender & Diversity Seniors

The project mobi.senior.A conducts an empirical survey on the internet usage of senior citizens. It focuses on the following research question: What are the differences between senior citizens in using mobile devices (tablets and smartphones) to access the internet and what are the implications for gender- and diversity-sensitive training, purchasing advice, support and development of apps for mobile devices?

Consumer Protection Dynamic Pricing Online Shopping

Dynamic pricing - the tactic to differentiate prices - is increasingly being discussed in the media and in the world of e-commerce. This project aims to provide an overview of the dynamic pricing phenomenon. In particular, it identifies the drivers of price differentiation and considers the impact of digitalisation. After analysing the advantages and disadvantages of dynamic pricing (from both a consumer and a business perspective), the prevalence of dynamic pricing is described in a study. Finally, the study discusses the legal permissibility of dynamic pricing and provides tips for consumers.

Children & Young People Gender & Diversity Social Media

Web 2.0 applications are a natural part of everyday media life - especially for children and young people. It is easy to publish one's own contributions and it is easy to organise one's own presence on the web. Therefore, a competent approach to privacy protection is crucial, as published data often cannot be removed in practice. Little research has been done on the specific practices that young men and women use to present themselves in digital media. Although the social web, with its opportunities for self-expression and self-presentation, plays an important role in young people's identity formation, the gender dimension is hardly addressed in existing educational initiatives and programmes.

Policies for Senior Citizens in a Digital World

The aim of the project is to carry out a study to develop policy recommendations to support older people in their use of digital media. The recommendations are addressed to professionals working on projects involving senior citizens, as well as decision-makers in the public, private and educational sectors.
