Artificial Intelligence Consumer Protection

The project ‘Artificial Intelligence and Consumer Protection’ is dedicated to the overarching question of how consumer protection actors are challenged on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI).

To this end, the project identifies problems that consumers face in their daily lives due to use of artificial intelligence and presents them in a study. These are structured in five areas of application:

  • Decisions about contracts,
  • Personalisation of content,
  • Image recognition,
  • Language processing,
  • Devices with AI functionalities/components.

In addition to the systematisation of consumer problems, selected national and international examples of ‘good practices’ for consumer protection in dealing with AI are identified. On the one hand, this concerns activities in the classic consumer protection fields of action from prevention and training to research and groundwork. On the other hand, AI tools are presented that can be used in the interests of consumer protection.
